Tea Party?

We were sick a couple of weeks ago and had to get creative with our indoor fun.
I hosted a tea party…Step 1:
Make tea.
(I put a drop of food coloring in Sprite… a different color for the sugar and cream)

Step 2:Ignore the messy house…

Step 3:
Be sure everyone is dressed up (PJs or no pants) and that you take turns hosting (pouring every one’s tea).

Step 4:

ENJOY! (FYI – These pictures will be saved to show all of Eli’s future girlfriends!)

Project 320

Remember that awesome messy bow giveaway hosted by Julie from Joy’s Hope?

This is my {crazy} dream:
To collect 100 handmade and heartfelt items.
Divide them into 10 giant, happy prize bundles.Have five days of giveaways.Two bundles of prizes featured each day.
But not just the “enter, enter, enter, get, get, get” type of giveaways.
More of a raffle.Each $10 donation to charity:water equals one entry.Readers can choose their favorite prize bundle or bundles, donate and then put their names in the drawing to win.
We will have our own webpage so entrants can donate directly to the well and we all can track and celebrate the progress.
10 bundlesIt will only take 50 comments a bundle
To equal $5,000.
$5,000 fully funds a well.A well that can save 500 lives.
Change an entire village.Forever.Ambitious? Maybe?
Doable? Certainly.
A little giving instead of just getting.

Jim Gaffigan…

…equals HUGE disappointment.

The talented Suz from Alive in Wonderland introduced us to Jim Gaffigan through this hysterical bacon post.
After reading her post, we headed on over to YouTube and watched his other bits… AWESOME.
For the next couple of weeks, would watch Gaffigan on Hot Hubby’s iPhone before snuggling up to bed. We laughed till we cried! His camping bit (no longer on YouTube) describes Hot Hubby’s “love” for camping (as seen here and here) perfectly!
Anyway, we saw Jimmy Boy was coming to town. We got all dolled up (proof from the picture taken by our babysitter before we left, below), shelled out $50 a ticket to see him at The Grove of Anaheim (where I happened to work for 4 years), hired a sitter, and budgeted a dinner out.
(Total side note: I spent 30 minutes curling my hair per the request of Hot Hubby and burned the H%!* out of my neck. Looks like I have a huge hickey!)

We went to El Torito for dinner where I got a cheap dinner salad and ate about 30 free tortillas with gobs of that lovely honey butter slathered on top.
It was good.
Really good. Excited as can be, we moseyed to the Grove and anxiously waited in our seats.
Packed house.
Show starts.
Wait a minute… we’ve heard that joke before.
“He must just be doing some of his old stuff to warm up.” (We reassure each other.)
Another old joke.

That whole bit was the same. WORD FOR WORD! Same EXACT voice inflections.
Hot Hubby and I begin to recite the lines before he says them.
We can’t even fake laugh.
He is doing the same show he did in 2005, verbatim!
It was so fresh in our minds because we watched it before the show to get pumped up.

Show is over.
We get 31 Flavors.
The Peanut Butter Chocolate makes me feel a bit better.
Dear Jim Gaffigan,
You owe us…
$100 for two tickets to a show you did 4 years ago (which can be downloaded for free on Netflix!)
$30 for our El Torito dinner
$50 for the babysitter
$250 Emotional damages for the curling iron burn on my neck that looks like a hickey.
I won’t charge you for the 31 Flavors ice cream (you’re welcome).

etnies

I was invited along with a lot of other bloggers to the etnies hub for a tour of their Sole Technology Institute and to learn about the launch of the latest addition to the etnies brand… Grow with Me toddler shoes!

It was fun.

You’ll get to see how Hot Hubby dressed our children like vagabonds AND how Eli was kind of a pill with the super nice owner AND how Cora was dripping green boogers on everything AND how I always seem to look like an idiot AND a picture of me in Jr High AND Eli’s year of wearing etnies AND some cool other stuff about the shoes.

Hot Hubby took a family day off work, so he had the kiddos while I headed on over to the etnies Corporate office aka Sole Technology Institute (Which happens to be right across the street from my Joann Fabrics… I may or may not have taken a detour there to get stuff for this).
I pull up and see this awesome place: (building designed by the amazing owner!!)
Then the bloggers got to chat and pretty much snoop around the office. Who doesn’t love a good snoop!?! My favorite thing was a huge company timeline display. See the online version here.

We walked on over to the Sole Technology Institute.

It’s a Biomechanics Skate Lab.

You read that right folks “biomechanics!” The one and only biomechanics lab out there.
Yes.
Really.
The ONLY one.
They brought in a skater kid who jumped down some huge stairs in a funny suit, landed on a special impact mat, while being recorded at all angles by computer cameras. All the information they compile gets… um… computed? Then someone smart makes better shoes.
(Those are totally the technical terms… ha!)

They do all sorts of durability tests for the shoes. The ollie machine below simulates an ollie over 2,000 times to see if the shoe will last. After a new shoe is tested in the lab they give them to local skaters for a street test. etnies has a great blog, check it out here. After our lesson we got to ask questions. I asked about the baby shoes but mostly I just wanted to tell them how much I like the Velcro kids shoes (those things are the best!).
Per the suggestion of my friend Marcy, I carry a few Eli’s Lids around for gifts…
During the Q & A the owner and passion behind etnies, Pierre Andre Seinzeruges, mentioned that he has a 14 month old son. So, I thought I would give him some Lids. Of course, I felt like a total idiot. It went way better than the Ralphie May incident. In fact, he seemed to like them. (Dear Pierre, If you steal my idea for practical/stylish Lids for infants that fit for up to 4 years I may or may not egg your building. Warmly, KN)

On our walk back to the office for lunch I heard someone screaming “Mommy”… it was MY someone. Hot Hubby had picked Eli up from preschool and cruised over to to see if I was done.
I was, and they let the whole fam-damily stay for lunch.Hot Hubby is good at a lot of things… dressing the children ISN’T one of them. Eli’s shirt was just a tad too small with holes in it. Cora had an orange bow, green dress and pale pink crocs on… so much for them being instantly asked to be etnies models… ha!

Lunch was AWESOME! Catered by a local favorite Jay’s Catering! And the cupcakes from Frosted Cupcakery were to-die-for!! (Dear Frosted Folks, I know a great cupcake gal, Kristen, from Meringue Bake Shop. You should be her friend. Kisses, KN)

Hot Hubby did get one thing right when dressing Eli. He remembered to put on his etnies… probably because they are one of Eli’s only pair of shoes. They were hand-me-downs from our good friends. Don’t tell the etnies folks, but Eli has been wearing those same shoes for over a year.

Now, here is a pic of Eli in the same shoes on November 11th, 2009 (He was the star of the day at preschool).Proof that the shoes REALLY are durable… and that I’m not very good at fitting shoes on my kiddos.
But I did wear this kick a&$ flannel vest for my 8th grade picture in 1994.

In case you wanted to know what Lincoln says about Thanksgiving… (wasn’t he the kind of president you can really respect!?!)

Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation:

October 3, 1863
By the President of the United States of America.
A Proclamation.
The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

Thanksgiving Crafts… and all that jazz

~Printed pictures of each family member
~Feathers
~Indian coloring sheets. Click here, here, here, here and here for the ones I used above.
~Crayons or markers
~Cardboard
1. Print out pictures of your family and enough Indian bodies for everybody.
2. Cut out faces of family members and glue them on the bodies where the face should be. Note: It doesn’t have to be true to size… it’s funnier if the face is a bit bigger!
3. Color
4. Glue picture onto cardboard
5. Cut out around body and face
5. Glue feathers to the top
6. To make them stand on their own glue a scrap of cardboard in a T shape on the back.

Smores in the Fireplace…

One of the great things about being a mom (and dad) is that you are the boss of your own house.
So, if you want to be super cool (and who doesn’t) you should make smores in the fireplace…
(or on the gas stove top if you don’t have a fireplace!)

It takes Hot Hubby about 10 minutes to roast the perfect smore.
Weak.
I can make and eat 3 in that time span.
