Potty Time!! { potty training }

(Don’t forget to head on over to MOMday Morning for your chance to win $75, an original piece of art by Joshua Sierk and a Nesting Pillow from Blessed Nest!!!)

Who loves potty training???
(silence fills the room)

I have a “trained” 3-year-old boy and an almost “trained” 2 year-old girl.
I’m the first to admit that I have just winged this whole potty thing. And to be totally honest I didn’t really care when they were trained. I remember when Eli was trained last summer Hot Hubby and I were super bummed because beach days would be much more difficult having to find bathrooms instead of just changing a diaper.
I’m hoping you’ll link up tips, tricks, products, methods, musings and support about your potty training journeys!
I’m about to unveil my “method” – keep in mind that I haven’t written any books, I’m not an expert, I don’t have a Child Development degree, all kiddos learn differently AND I have only completely trained one kiddo in my whole life!!
Here it goes…

The Lazy Mom’s (Slow) Potty Training Method
First off, a confession: I’m LAZY! If I’m cleaning up more than is going in the potty, then I’m not doing it. Judge me as you will… I’m just being transparent.
Phase 1: Everybody goes potty
We put a kids’ potty in the bathroom per the suggestion of my friend’s doctor so the kiddos would be used to it around the house. We have an open-door house so the kiddos would imitate us on their potty. The doctor had told my friend that children would just start going on their own… ha! Though they weren’t instantly potty trained I think that having the potty around and the pretend play was beneficial.

potty training Phase 2: Q – Are they ready?
When I thought my kiddos were ready (Eli was 2.5 and Cora Jane was 2) I had them go bare buns around the house and tried
a sticker potty chart
. There were TONS of accidents and I was cleaning up tinkle and poop all day long.
A – Not ready
It was gross (and remember, I’m lazy) I was over it! So I put diapers back on those sweet little bottoms.
Phase 3: Q – Are they ready now?
Then about a month later I tried again sans the fuss of a sticker chart. I just let those cute lil’ bare buns free around the house and did diapers during naps, nighttime and out and about.
A – Yes, ready!!
There were hardly any accidents and it took about 3-4 weeks before they were solid at home during awake time. They got one M&M for tinkle and 4 for poo poo.

potty training (2) copy Phase 4: Underwear (don’t call them panties for boys because your hubby will have a hissy)
Then we did big boy/girl underwear at home during awake time (still doing diapers during naps and nighttime). It took about two weeks for them to be accident free in underwear at home.
Phase 5: Out and About
We bought a
travel potty from One Step Ahead
(per the suggestion from my friend Aimee) and went for it. There were a few accidents but nothing too crazy. We love this travel potty and Eli still uses it if we are at a park with no bathroom! (This is where we are with Cora Jane and she seems to only have accidents at church… of all places!! We are 0-3 at church…LOL!) We ask a lot if they have to go and go potty right when we get somewhere and before we leave. We still do diapers during naps and nighttime. I know there is a huge controversy about confusing the kiddos by switching from diapers to undies in a day. I haven’t found that to be the case with my kiddos. In the morning the first thing they did was take off their diaper to go in the potty and at night if they had to go potty they would get up and take off their diaper and go. I just had to help put it back on at night.

Eli had issues going poo in the potty so we did bribes incentives from the Poo Poo Present Store (my favorite store ever!) and once from the dollar section at TARGET.

ww potty break Phase 6: Sleep… Zzzzzzzzzzz
We ousted sippys at nap time. When there were consistent dry diapers after naps, we started doing undies. Sheets make a lot of extra
laundry (and remember, I’m lazy) so I really did wait a long time before the nap/night underwear transition. Slowly we cut down liquids in the evening. Eli would go down at his bedtime, then when we were ready to turn in (around 10pm) we would carry him out of bed and set him on the potty half asleep (thanks for this suggestions Sarah
). He would stay dry for the rest of the night.

Tip: Always have antibacterial cleaning wipes available for quick clean-ups.

Question: I’m noticing with little girls the tinkle shoots every-which-way. How do I prevent that?

Today is MOMday morning!! Remember all the fun we had the last time??? This Month Blessed Nest is hosting and the prizes are AMAZING!! Aside from the $75 cash-o-la and the amazing Nesting Pillow from Blessed Nest, the winner will get custom commissioned art by Joshua Sierk!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day 2006 – fetus Eli gave me a snoogle…

Mother’s Day 2007 – We started our tradition of a Mother’s Day picnic after church…
I’m not a huge gift gal and I thought that a beach day/picnic tradition will carry on through their teen years. They can surf (with daddy) and scope out for hotties (do people still say that?) while I get my beach reading on!
(found out I was preggers with Cora Jane 3 weeks later!!)

Mother’s Day 2008 – Hanging with Mommy friends at church. Can you find Eli and 3 month old Cora Jane?? I’m sure we went to the beach for a picnic but we must have forgotten our camera…

Mother’s Day 2009 – A walk and a picnic at the lake.

Mother’s Day 2010 – We went to church then expected a hot afternoon for the beach picnic. But it was freezing!! Thank goodness I’m always ready with Lids in the car!!

We hit up Cafe Rio for lunch then went to get Cora Jane’s first hair cut… because if you can’t go to the beach you get your hair cut… right?? Very random… but I loved every second 🙂 I’m thinking I have a date with the laundry pile this evening!

Being a mom rocks!! Whether you are soaking up the sun or doing laundry today, I’m sending you blessings!

Check back tomorrow, as we extend the MOM’s Day fun with a big surprise!

Happy Haunting {yummy crock pot Tortilla Soup recipe}

Blessings on this “holiday” from our family to yours!happy halloween tortilla soupSilly photo effects done at Picnik!crock pot tortilla soup

Wondering what to make tonight?
Try this EASY croc pot recipe (I got it from my friend Rachael). It is delicious! It’s really more of a stew than a soup. It’s thick so it can stand on it’s own for an easy meal.

Crockpot Chicken Tortilla Soup
Makes 6-8 servings:
4 chicken breast halves (option to cube)
2 15-oz cans black beans, undrained
2 15-oz cans Mex stewed tomatoes
1 cup salsa
4-oz can chopped green chilies
14.5-oz can tomato sauce
tortilla chips
2 c grated cheese

1. Combine all ingredients (except chips and cheese) – I only use 2 chicken breasts for two adults, two toddlers, and there are still some leftovers.
2. Cover – cook on Low for 7-8 hours (or on med-high for 4-6 hours)
3. Just before serving, remove chicken and cut up (I cube the chicken so I don’t have to do this step) and then mix back in
4. To serve, put a handful of chips in each soup bowl. Ladle soup over chips. Top with cheese, sour cream, Tabasco, avocado, etc.
5. Enjoy! Super easy!

Accidentally on Purpose

I somehow got on the list of mom bloggers to go to a VIP taping of the new CBS comedy Accidentally on Purpose, little do they know I only have 2 readers (hi mom & grandmom!)!!

See what happened…I got to the CBS lots late (of course) and the page told me the show was canceled.
I wandered around for a bit then called the organizer (who was not too happy with me for calling) and somehow found my group of bloggers. Just in time…
We met Claudia Lonow the creator and mastermind behind Accidentally on Purpose. She was super nice and said I looked great after having 2 kiddos. I suspect she was lying through her teeth but that is the kind of lie everyone should tell. We may or may not have heard that the guys on the show have been around the block a few times.
I know.
Shocking. Young, cute Hollywood boys can get the girls!?! Whoda thought?

Jenna Elfman’s character, Billie, has an adorable home on the show.

See for yourself…

We got full run of the set in between takes.
The idea is that all us tweeters/bloggers will tweet our hearts out with the hash tag #AccidentallyOnPurpose and it would be a fun tweet party. Of course, I’m the worst speller in the world and I was using the hash tag #AccidentlyOnPurpose. Oh well… that was the worst hash tag in the world… it should have been #aop or something… sigh.

One of the most interesting things was watching the important people watch the taping. They all sit in tall directors chairs staring at one TV screen. The screen is divided into 4 mini screens; each showing the actors from a different angle.
Someone would say action.
They would stare until they liked what they saw and someone would yell cut.
Very Hollywood.I go to meet other fun tweeters…

Two of the gals on the show are preggers in real life. Ashley Jensen (you might remember her from Ugly Betty) and Jenna Elfman (you might remember for being awesome).
Got my pic with Jenna.
She had her son on the set, Story Elias. I wanted to say “My son’s name is Eli and your son’s middle name is Elias, we almost have the same taste in names.”
But I already felt like a total idiot getting a picture with her and I didn’t want her to know I was a total dork too.
I didn’t take any pics of her and Story. I felt kind of funny about it.
Actors choose the path of “celebrity” but their kids… and I really wouldn’t want strangers taking pictures of my kiddos… anyway…

I went to a TV show taping in High School (California Dreaming) and this was very similar.

You sit, watch and laugh.
For a long time.
Luckily Accidentally on Purpose is well written and funny.
Remember how I got there late? I didn’t get lunch because Hot Hubby and I were doing the kiddo/car switch-a-roo and when I got there I missed the snack time so by the end I was STARVING!
I passed a table…

Yep.
After snapping that picture, I stuffed that sucker in my purse and inhaled it outside.
I got in the car to head on home and there was this…
To stay awake I took a bunch of self portraits.

I’ll close with the group picture with the cast…
I’m standing next to someone famous from Melrose Place.
I’m not sure if he was in the old one or is in the new one.
I wasn’t allowed to watch the old one and we don’t have TV so I’ve never seen the new one.
Will someone let me know?
Whoever he is, he was very nice… but not nearly as handsome as my hubby 🙂

My Birthday!

I’m 29 today!!

I’m not one of those people who cares about getting older… especially since for most of this year I already though I was 29!

Hot Hubby let me sleep in and woke me up with freshly baked chocolate chip waffles and snuggly kiddos. We all ate waffles in bed with no regard to where and how many crumbs were ground into the sheets.
Then I watched my little family leave the room and close the door so I could lounge in bed and read… ahhhhh.

I heard my children and husband playing.

Inside Out started playing on the iPod and I couldn’t help thinking how thankful I am for my family and my Faith.
I’m Happy.
When I felt like emerging from our room I came out to cheers from the kiddos and a tired looking Hubby. I sent him to take a nap and set the kiddos up with stickers (thanks Nana… or is it Nannie now?) at the kitchen table while I swept the downstairs and vacuumed the couch. I even smiled when the kiddos knocked over a glass and the sharp shards spread across the floor (in the manner that glass usually does) everywhere.
Why am I so content?
I mean I am cleaning on my birthday, the kiddos shattered glass and my hubby is taking a nap!
Because this is everything I have ever wanted.
I’m a wife adored by her husband.
I’m a mother needed by her children.
I’m a woman who takes pride in her home.
I’m the daughter of The King.
Now, my dear invisible friends, my sweet little family it taking me out to lunch.
Sending you wishes of bliss on my birthday!

(my 1st birthday with my parents… notice the awesome homemade b-day cake and the flowers lovingly embroidered on my dad’s shirt by my mom!!)

P.S.
I stumbled upon Blog Hop ’09 and decided to add this post to the blog hopping F-U-N!

Flutter Skirts

I have always loved skirts. In grade school there were years I refused to wear pants. I was/am a girly girl. See…I think my figure looks better in skirts. Smaller waist accented and child bearing hips camouflaged.

Skirts make you feel beautiful
Skirts make you feel like dancing
Skirts make you feel feminine
Spring is in full swing and summer is upon us.
I’m going to wear skirts.

The End

Getting Product…

product
Orders were getting a bit too much for me to handle so I found a great local manufacture (with the help of some awesome mommies!!). Woo…hoo! I will have loads of product by the end of next week and will be able to fill orders within a day. I’m so excited that things are finally getting started. I will still be hand dying the lids myself and I hope to only use local vendors.
I had always planned to partner up with a charity, and donate a percentage of my profits to their cause. I think I have finally found the perfect charity! They work to help kids with autism get all the therapy they need. They have an amazing heart for what they do, and they REALLY do help the families they work with. When things are finalized I will reveal exactly who they are and what they do.
